Double Klondike - Play Online Free
Double Klondike takes the classic Klondike and doubles the scale. With 2 decks (104 cards), 9 tableau columns, and 8 foundation piles, this variant offers a longer, more strategic game. The larger tableau and double the cards create complex situations that challenge even experienced players.
How to Play Double Klondike
Setup
Use 2 standard decks (104 cards). Deal 45 cards into 9 columns (1 to 9 cards per column). Only the top card of each column is face-up. The remaining 59 cards form a large stock pile.
Rules
- Build tableau columns in descending rank with alternating colors.
- Only Kings may fill empty tableau columns.
- Draw one card at a time from the stock with unlimited redeals.
- Build 8 foundation piles from Ace to King by suit (2 per suit).
- Groups of properly sequenced cards can be moved together.
Strategy Tips
- With 9 columns, you have more workspace — use it to build longer sequences.
- Having duplicate cards means you may need to choose which of two identical cards to play first.
- Empty columns are even more powerful with more cards in play — create them when possible.
- Track which foundation pile each suit is building on to avoid confusion.
- Be patient — Double Klondike games take longer, and rushing leads to mistakes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Double Klondike game take?
A typical Double Klondike game takes 15-25 minutes, roughly twice as long as standard Klondike. The 104 cards and 8 foundations make for a more extended strategic experience.
Is Double Klondike harder than regular Klondike?
Despite having more cards, Double Klondike is roughly similar in difficulty. The extra columns provide more workspace, but the larger number of cards creates more complex situations. About 70-80% of deals are solvable.
Why are there 8 foundation piles?
With 2 decks, there are 2 copies of each suit, so you need 8 foundation piles (2 per suit) to accommodate all 104 cards.
